2024 was a challenging year for me, as well as for the rest of the current lineup.
Speaking entirely for myself, I came into it with some serious goals for Megaton Leviathan, but we needed to alter course. I don't know what to say as an artist; I have faced many complex and challenging circumstances in recent years. Most of it is related to family and loss. I am fortunate to have a modest home on the rural Oregon coast. I have decided to take the time to navigate my emotions and convalesce, which is necessary to grow as a musician and a person. It will ultimately yield the proper results for Megaton Leviathan. Go real slow; you're moving much too fast …as the song goes.
In 2024, we began playing live shows after almost five years and after working with Alex and Tory ( Deephaven) for nearly three or close to 4 years. It starts in the summer of 24 with Azoth in Portland, OR, and then Lunasa Cascadia with many other great artists. We then played in my backyard out in the trees with friends and neighbors and wrapped up the year with another hometown show at the Haunt in downtown Astoria, Oregon, to enthusiastic crowds. We have plans to continue with more of the same in 2025, focusing on local and regional shows.
As most of you know, I am a studio musician taking a hybrid approach. In recent years, I have taken advantage of Tory and Alex's musical prowess and recorded live improvisations in the studio, which were cathartic and became the studio live album Magick Helmet. I am now beginning to focus on new and old materials for live sets and adding, with any luck, a synthesizer on stage. Mort Subite has been missing (literally) since 2019, and I have decided that instead of replacing them, I can take the mantle - as needed. Guitar / Bass is my first instrument, but I look forward to bringing this new hybrid vision of the “man-machine” to the stage.
Things are changing, but I still have a good idea of what is wanted from me. I hear all the time about Mage, and yes, it is a highly personal and unique album to me, but it is time to move on. I'm out here at the world's edge, and I know I must follow my heart. I don’t do this for the sake of doom or being heavy; I don't tremolo on my guitar for the sake of staring at my shoes, and much like my friend, James MOZ Brand, as he said himself -I don't make noise for the sake of noise. Megaton Leviathan is a name I have earned, and I most definitely do this for me. However, I look forward to sharing my intended message and experience with you in 2025. I appreciate your support.
